Hagan puts Dole in an unfamiliar bind

Paper: One of the best-known women in American politics, Dole is in an unexpectedly competitive race with Democratic state Sen. Kay Hagan.

“It's been a lot of cutesy stuff up to now,” said Dole strategist Tom Fetzer, a former Raleigh mayor. “But on Labor Day, the bell rings.”
